Mission
To provide accurate, permanent records of important legal documents.

Vision

To provide exceptional customer service carrying out all mandated functions accurately and efficiently.

What We Do

Record Land Documents
The main function of our office is the recording of documents pertaining to real property ownership in Kootenai County.
  • 49,627 recorded documents raised county revenue of $978,310 in fiscal year 2018.
Our current database is on our County website providing online access to documents recorded since 1989.  Later this year we intend to implement an online pay-per-copy feature so documents may be printed from the comfort of your home or office saving a trip to the County Administration Building.

Process Passport Applications
As an additional service for our County residents, we are a Passport Acceptance Facility. We perform this service according to regulations of the United States Department of State.
  • FY18: 4,283 applications brought in $125,625 to the county.
We are the only acceptance facility within the Coeur d'alene, ID, and Spokane, WA, area that accepts passport applications on a walk-in basis.  All other facilities require applicants make an appointment, which are generally six to eight weeks out.

Issue Beverage Licenses
We issue beverage licenses and catering permits to businesses selling or producing alcoholic beverages in Kootenai County.
  • 441 beverage licenses and 31 catering permits made $94,625 county revenue in fiscal year 2018.

 Issue Marriage Licenses
Another duty is issuing marriage licenses for those who wish to marry within Idaho.
  • 2489 marriage licenses produced county revenue of $38,826 in fiscal year 2018.

Archive Historical Documents
Our office has been working to make all of our historical documents available via electronic means.  We have documents that date back to 1881.

The removal of books has allowed us to plan for expansion of the public research area in our upstairs vault.  We have designed a new counter area for our research computers to give you more room and better access to our archives.
